Vijayawada to host national ball badminton tourney

The 60th Senior National ball badminton championship for men and women will be held at IGMC Stadium here from January 7 to 11, 2015 in which 32 men and 28 women teams will vie for honours.

Speaking to the mediapersons, Andhra Pradesh Ball Badminton Association secretary R. Venkata Rao said that as many as eight courts would be laid and out of which two will be under floodlights. “Matches will be held in mornings and evenings for the benefit of the sports lovers,” he added.

He said along with State teams, institutions like Indian Railways, Major Ports, Department of Atomic Energy and ISRO will take part.

The united Andhra Pradesh has so far hosted six Senior National events and this is first one after the bifurcation. “Over 1,000 players will be seen in action and each will be given a memento along with cash prizes. We are also offering free boarding and lodging,” said Mr. Rao.
