Advancements in robotic technology hold a great promise and three students from Vijayawada are making their presence felt in the field with their recent win at the Nationals of Indian Robot Olympiad in New Delhi.

The Bot, made by students R.M.V. Durga Bhavani and D. Srikanth (both third year ECE students from Lakireddy Bali Reddy College of Engineering) and T. Vamsi (EEE diploma student from Government Polytechnic, Gannavaram), which stood first in the nationals, has won them a place in the World Robot Olympiad to be held in Kuala Lumpur from November 9 to 11.

The trio won the Regional Olympiad in Chennai making the Bot do the job in 61 seconds. The excited winners narrated their achievement to The Hindu on Sunday and the task ahead. They look forward to building a ‘Bot’ which would pick up four different coloured cubes and place them on a pole with same colour within two minutes or even less. “Our ‘Bot’ finished this task within just 75 seconds after we built it in two-and-a-half hours,” said team member D. Srikanth.

The group calls itself “Robo Bugs”, formed at The Robo Club in the city. The group members are guided by Tanmayee, an MIC College of Engineering graduate. “She never gave any answers to the problems that arose, but she made us to find solution on our own,” said Durga Bhavani.

The 11 Bot performed successfully after ten trials.
