The sanitary workers, who are on strike for the last five days, have called of their agitation following successful negotiations with Municipal Commissioner C. Hari Kiran.

The State government has agreed to hike their wages to Rs.8,300 from existing Rs.6,700, but the sanitary workers have announced that they would continue their strike as long as the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) does not clear the air on pending dues.

Communist Party of India (CPI) city secretary Donepudi Sankar and CPI (M) city secretary Ch. Babu Rao held parleys with the Municipal Commissioner over pending dues here on Thursday.

Mr. Hari Kiran assured them of clearance of the dues by February 20 and depositing of PF and ESI amounts with the respective organisations. AITUC city general secretary Viyyapu Nageswara Rao, CITU city general secretary Muzzafer Ahmed, employees’ union leader Asula Ranganayakulu, workers union leader M. David and others were present.
