The Vijayawada railway division of the South Central Railway (SCR) has achieved 5.62 per cent growth in gross earnings as compared to the corresponding period last year. This is in spite of a shortfall in terms of number of passengers and global recession in freight revenue, said SCR Divisional Railway Manager Ashok Kumar.
Addressing the 121st meeting of the Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (DRUCC) meeting on Wednesday, he said face-lifting along with LED lighting had been completed at Vijayawada station.
Construction of new general waiting hall and extension of existing AC waiting hall were completed too.
To avoid long queues at booking counters, 81 Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVM) have been installed at 38 stations in the division. Twelve RO water vending machines have been provided at Vijayawada station.
New foot-over-bridges (FOBs) were constructed at Godavari and Nidadavolu stations. The outlived escalators at Vijayawada station on platforms 1 and 6 would be replaced before Krishna Pushkarams and Wi-Fi facility provided at Vijayawada shortly.
