Vijayawada Police Commissioner suspended

Chief Minister, K. Rosaiah on Monday announced the suspension of Vijayawada Police commissioner, K.V. Rajendranath Reddy and five other police officers for “showing negligence and behaving irresponsibly”.

This follows the dramatic escape of fasting Congress MP, Lagadapati Rajagopal from the government hospital at Vijayawada on Sunday night. Mr. Rajagopal surfaced at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences here on Monday afternoon.

Mr. Rosaiah told media persons that an inquiry has also been ordered into the disappearance of the MP from the Vijayawada hospital. Other police officers placed under suspension were A.V. Subba Rao, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Central Zone, K. Dharmendra and C.H. Lakshmipathi, circle inspectors and P. Bhaskara Rao and R.V.S. Kamalakar, sub inspectors.
