Municipal Commissioner G.S. Panda Das will discuss the matter of setting up solid waste management projects and generation of power from garbage with Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, at the State-level steering committee (SLSC) meeting, scheduled on September 2, in Hyderabad.

Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has identified lands at nine places for setting up dumping yards in Gannavaram and Agiripalli mandals.

Proposals have been sent to the district administration for allotting lands for the projects.

The Commissioner, who attended the two-day national workshop on solid waste management in Kerala on August 26 and 27, said the projects taken up under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) in Surat, Coimbatore, Pune, Sholapur and other cities were explained in the workshop.

VMC would invite consultants and agencies for taking up the projects after conducting analysis on waste generation, future expansion and other aspects, said Mr. Panda Das at a press conference here on Friday.
