Number of murders, rapes, kidnaps and robberies goes up
The increase in crime rate in the city is worrying the police. As many as 7,183 cases were registered in Vijayawada during 2012, the number was 6,638 in 2011.
The number of rape, murder, robbery, deaths during road accidents, kidnaps and cheating cases has gone up slightly in the city.
Even as the police introduced ‘Spy Mobile’ to identify the criminals during night hours, the number of robbery cases has gone up to 57 this year, which was only 34 during 2011.
The police successfully detected three kidnap cases reported under Penamaluru, Satyanarayanapuram and Two Town police station limits. The cops unravelled the sensational murder cases that took place under Suryaraopeta, One Town, Machavaram, Ambapuram and Patamata areas.
Police checked 4,133 persons through Spy Mobile and identified 147 criminals, who were arrested in various crimes earlier.
As many as 356 persons died in road accidents in the police commissionerate limits this year, while 311 persons died last year. Police said that 1,074 persons suffered injuries in road mishaps, which rose to 1,098 this year.
Police conducted raids and booked 49 cases for gambling. They apprehended 401 persons and seized Rs.30.75 lakh from the accused. The cops arrested 32 persons for resorting to cricket betting and seized Rs.60,335 from them.
The Traffic Police registered 3.29 lakh cases for violating traffic rules this year. About 5,534 persons were arrested under Section.185 of Motor Vehicle Act, on charges of drunken driving, said the police.
