Vijayawada cop is the best swimmer again

He took part in 64th All India Police Aquatic and Cross-country race championship 2015-16

M. Tulasi Chaitanya, a head constable from the city, did Andhra Pradesh police proud once again winning the best swimmer title among the Indian police with his stand-out performance at national level competitions for police personnel.

Twenty-seven-year-old Chaitanya who took part in 64th All India Police Aquatic and Cross-country race championship 2015-16 held at Lucknow during April 18 and 22 bagged five gold medals and the best swimmer title.

He received the award from Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kerin Rijiju and Uttar Pradesh Director-General of Police Javeed Ahmed.

Chaitanya won gold in 1,500 meter freestyle (17.45 minutes), 800 meters freestyle (9.14 minutes), 400 meters freestyle (4.24 minutes), 200 meters freestyle (2.03 minutes) and 400 meters Individual Medley (5.08 minutes).

Creates history

Earlier in 2013, Chaitanya set history winning three gold medals at the World Police Games held in Belfast, Ireland, on behalf of Indian police and later won seven gold medals in Indian Police Aquatic Meet and best swimmer title representing AP Police.

He was the first one to break the continuous winnings of personnel from CRPF and BSF for decades in swimming.

“I dedicate this success to AP police department and DGP J.V. Ramudu and Vijayawada CP D. Gautam Sawang who supported me all through. I will be taking part in 65th Indian police aquatic meet in July this year too,” Chaitanya told The Hindu .

He was trained for seven years in SAAP which was the initiation of Mr. Naidu.

Later, with the support of A.P. Police department Chaintanya got trained by noted swimming coach Pradeep Kumar at Basavangudi Aquatic Centre, Bengaluru.
