YSR Congress (YSRC) honorary president Y.S. Vijayamma’s fast-unto-death ‘Samara Deeksha’ for unified State of Andhra Pradesh entered the second day on Tuesday. Her protest evoked good response from the party activists and supporters of ‘Samaikyandhra’, who blamed the Congress high command for the crisis faced by people of Andhra Pradesh.

Ms. Vijayamma told the party cadres that she would not call off the stir till the decision to form Telangana is taken back by the ruling party. She said one need not be surprised by the malicious propaganda waged by Congress and TDP whose actions plunged the State into uncertainty. Top leaders of the party expressed solidarity with her while accusing the TDP of clearing the way for Congress to go ahead with bifurcation.

Dadi Veerabhadra Rao, who has recently joined YSRC after parting ways with TDP, said Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had successfully foiled the attempts by TRS to get Statehood sanctioned to Telangana. Mr. Rajasekhara Reddy took strong objection to the derogatory remarks made by TRS leaders in the Assembly, on ‘Telugu talli’. A misinformation campaign that Mr. Rajasekhara Reddy got a resolution passed in favour of Telangana was orchestrated by his rivals. His son Jaganmohan Reddy had not minced words in supporting unified State, for which he even held a placard aloft in the Lok Sabha. This shows his support for unified State and he is still worried about the consequences of bifurcation.

‘Govt. lacks commitment’

The State Government has not shown commitment in completing the irrigation projects under the ‘Jalayagnam,’- a dream of YSR to stabilise lakhs of acres of parched lands, honorary president of YSR Congress Party, Y.S. Vijayamma has said here.

Ms. Vijayamma accused the State Government of deliberately neglecting the works relating to completion of the projects designed to meet the drinking water and irrigational needs of lakhs of farmers in the State.

“Construction of the irrigation projects has come to a standstill as the Government stopped release of funds and clear the obstacles in grounding the projects,’’ she said. Making a pointed reference to Pulichintala project, Ms. Vijayamma said that the negligence of the Government in completing the project had meant that the farmers in Guntur, Krishna districts would have to a lose an year.
