Telangana Congress leader and former MP V. Hanumatha Rao came down on the Chief Ministers of the Telugu states for trying to change their states into ‘Singapores and Malaysias’.

Addressing the media here on Monday, Mr. Hanumantha Rao said that he came here to participate in a rally being taken out by people from various sections to protest against the removal of idols and small shrines that were a hindrance to road development. But he did not participate in the rally because it was non-political.

The senior Telangana Congress leader said that both Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu were going overboard in trying to transform their States into countries like Singapore and Malaysia.

“I have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh asking them why they were silent when their ally Mr. Chandrababu Naidu is demolishing religious shrines, places of worship,” he said.

‘Secular country’

“India is a secular country and every citizen has the right to follow his own religion. The Prime Minister keeps on talking about Swachch Barath which is based on the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi, but nobody seems to say a word when a statue unveiled by the great Gandhian social activist Anna Hazare,” Mr. Hanumantha Rao pointed out.

The Congress leader asked why Tridhandi China Jeer Swami, who had an ashram in the city, was keeping quiet though so many Hindu idols and shrines had been removed from places where they were located for decades.
