NARSARAOPET (GUNTUR DT): Senior BJP leader M. Venkaiah Naidu left a public meeting in a huff after police intervened here on Sunday. He began addressing the meeting on Palnadu Road, felt unease with repeated sloganeering by party cadres and on more than one occasion, asked the party leaders to rein in their supporters.

He even asked local leaders to get down from the stage and asked only Lok Sabha and Assembly candidates to remain on the stage.

Even as Mr. Naidu began speaking, local police led by DSP D. Prasad intervened, citing lapse of permission. They asked Mr. Naidu to end speech. An infuriated Naidu shot back at police asking them to extend timing but the cops stuck to their stand forcing Mr. Naidu to cut short his address.

Earlier, Mr. Naidu sounded upbeat about the electoral prospects of Modi and exuded confidence that the BJP would garner 300 seats in the general elections.

``East or West and North or South- people want to see the end of Congress and give power to Modi,’’ he said. Senior leaders Kodela Siva Prasada Rao, Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, Nallabothu Venkat Rao and Prathipati Pulla Rao were present.
