Vamsi coming out of hibernation?

Recent developments point out that he has set his eyes on Vijayawada LS seat

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader Vallabhaneni Vamsi seems to be trying to come out of hibernation after nearly one year if the reported spat with an IPS officer is any indication.

Mr. Vamsi lodged a complaint with Director-General of Police Prasada Rao alleging that he faced life threat from Inspector-General of Police P. Sita Rama Anjaneyulu.

If the life threat issue were to be set aside, the development signals that Mr. Vamsi has plans to spring back into city politics.

The recent developments in the party also point out that Mr. Vamsi has set his eyes on Vijayawada parliamentary constituency.

There is a talk in the party that Rajya Sabha member Sujana Chowdary is actively considering the idea of contesting Lok Sabha elections from Vijayawada. However, Mr. Vamsi also has asked party president N. Chandrababu Naidu to give him a chance to contest from Vijayawada MP seat.

Mr. Naidu, sources say, neither refused nor said yes to it. Mr. Vamsi narrowly missed the MP seat in 2009 by contesting against sitting MP Lagadapati Rajagopal.

The rank and file of urban TDP feels that the Mr. Naidu’s padaytatra had choked Mr. Vamsi politically though he reached masses and succeeded in rejuvenating the party. His followers grumble that the party sidelined him ever since he met YSR Congress Party president Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy during latter’s Odarpu Yatra in the city.

Mylavaram MLA and TDP district president Devineni Umamaheswara Rao is said to have lodged a complaint with Mr. Naidu in this regard. It created a rift between the district and urban presidents then. It cost him TDP Urban president’s post. More so, the TDP made Kesineni Srinivas (Nani) as Vijayawada Parliamentary constituency incharge.

Mr. Vamsi, subsequently, pinned his hopes on Gannavaram Assembly constituency, which is now represented by Dasari Balavardhana Rao, a senior TDP leader.

The party leadership assured Mr. Balavardhana Rao, sources say, that he would be made Chairman of Krishna District Milk Producers Mutually Aided Co Op Union Ltd, popularly known as Vijaya Dairy.

Mr. Vamsi is, apparently, not participating actively in party activities ever since he was stripped of TDP Urban president post a year ago. He is confining himself to his Vallabhaneni Aruna Memorial Charitable Trust and service activities in Gannavaram constituency since then.
