Use only govt. lands for port construction: Vadde

April 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Former Minister Vadde Sobhanadreeswara Rao has urged the government to utilise government lands for the construction of Bandar port and spare land owned by farmers.

He also wanted Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to review the previous government’s revised concessional agreement of granting more than 5,000 acres to a private firm for construction of the port.

“The district administration had recently announced that there were 2,300 acres of government lands available, and that more than 2,200 acres would be acquired for the construction of the port. The Gangavaram port, spread across 2,000 acres, has been handling huge cargo, proving that 2,000 acres are more than enough for the Bandar port,” Mr. Rao said here on Tuesday.

“Development should not be at the expense of farmers,” he added.
