With Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu due to stay in the city for at least three days a week from next month, the Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (SPDCL) has initiated steps to ensure uninterrupted power supply to his camp office.

The discom will lay a dedicated double-circuit underground (UG) cable along with a circuit breaker from the 33/11 kv sub-station situated next to the State guesthouse to the office. These facilities are estimated to cost Rs. 32 lakh. SPDCL has already given nod pending payment by the Chief Engineer of the Krishna Delta system. Work is scheduled to be completed by May end.

As a standby option, a similar UG cable network is being laid from the under-construction indoor sub-station on Museum Road to the office which will be ready by June end, say officials.

The Irrigation Department has to pay to SPDCL development charges amounting to Rs. 25 lakh plus Rs. 5 lakh for a transformer and a security deposit of Rs. 1.70 lakh for one UG cable system. The cables will cover nearly 450 m, inclusive of extra wiring to facilitate replacements in case of a major breakdown.

SPDCL is gearing up to erect two transformers of different capacities at the nearby old irrigation CE and SE office premises where three senior IAS officers and 18 HoDs are planned to be housed.
