The Vijayawada, Guntur, Tenali and Mangalagiri Urban Development Authority (VGTMUDA) has decided to construct its own ‘green building’ but not at the existing location. The UDA, in its Board meeting on Thursday; decided to exchange its land situated in prime location of the city in lieu of land either at Gunadala or some other place.
Disclosing the details of Board meeting, UDA Chairman Vanukuri Srinivas Reddy said that the Authority was looking for an acre of land so that parking and other facilities could be provided to its visitors. As the UDA jurisdiction expanded and its staff would increase to meet the new demands, the parking and amenities should be accorded top priority, he opined.
Parking facility
In view of this, the Authority had held parleys with A.P. Transco and Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) for exchange of land, he said. The UDA Chairman’s observation raised many eyebrows as it has planned parking to suit the future needs in the green building.
When foundation stone was laid, the UDA authorities and Municipal Administration Minister M. Maheedhar Reddy said that the parking lot would also be first of its kind in the city. The UDA was planning to develop the stacked car parking facility where car over car can be parked like in developed countries.
It saves a lot of parking space. If the UDA requirement of 40 car space were to be excluded, the space for another 140 cars could be used to generate income, they announced then.
Ropeway project
The Board also decided to ask Tourism department to take up its ambitious ropeway project as the tourism department was implementing it in Srisailam and other places. If the department was not keen on taking it up, the UDA would implement it, he said.
Referring to MLAs and MPs’ requests, the UDA would construct roads in their constituencies if they gave 30 per cent of the cost from their funds. The UDA would release 70 per cent from its funds, he added.
UDA Vice-Chairman M. Rama Rao, Vijayawada Municipal Commissioner Ch. Hari Kiran and other Board members were present. EOM
