Two persons were arrested for allegedly stealing motorcycles under Two Town police station limits in the city on Sunday. The persons were accused of using duplicate keys to lift the vehicles and as many as eight bikes worth Rs. 2.58 lakh were seized from them.
The arrested persons were Sheik Shanmass, 20, belonging to Ranigari Thota in Krishna Lanka, and Bidra Veeranjaneyulu belonging to Payakapuram.
They were found to be old offenders and there were cases of chain snatching and robbery against Shanmass in Satyanarayanapuram, Krishna Lanka and A. Konduru police stations.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, West Zone, T. Harikrishna said that for the last six months, the duo had been lifting bikes and they were stopped during a vehicle check near Budameru railway crossing recently when they left the bike and escaped from the scene.
When a search was launched, they were caught on information that they were moving near flyover bridge near Milk Project area.
Two Town inspector Prasada Rao, crime SI Prasad and their staff made the arrests.
The police said that Veeranjaneyulu was once imprisoned in a chain-snatching case and he came back on bail. In another case, during vehicle checking at Vuyyur, the police arrested Sheik Noor Ahmad Rafi on the charges of house-breaking and stealing jewellery from houses. An amount of Rs. 49,500 and gold jewellery were seized from him.
His accomplice G. Koteswara Rao alias Koti, 25, was absconding.
The police said that Rafi belongs to Lakarampeta in Khammam district and there were nearly 22 cases of robbery against him with nearly eight warrants pending against him.
