The Suryaraopet police arrested P. Namratha and her associate Ch. Mallika, of Srishti Test Tube Baby Centre here on Sunday. Police said the arrests were made on the basis of a complaint lodged by K. Dimple Kumari of Gollapudi village.

In her complaint Ms. Kumari alleged that the hospital collected Rs. 3 lakhs in two instalments on the promise of good treatment for infertility. The hospital promised the same through advertisements but it was unsuccessful, she alleged. Proper receipts for the payments were also not issued, she alleged in the complaint.

Briefing the media, Assistant Commissioner of Police, west zone, V.N.V. Satyanarayana said that nearly 30 women from different areas filed complaints against the hospital. Police booked three cases under Section 420 of the IPC.

Doctor's charge

Dr. Namratha said that these patients had refused to take bills saying that they were afraid of VAT at the time of treatment. The success rate in the treatment was only five in every 16 cases, she said.

“They now formed into a group and are blackmailing me for huge amount,” she said.
