The One-Town police on Thursday took into custody an auto-rickshaw driver and his friend on the charge of attempting to rape a minor girl. The police charged Ahmed Basha, 25, and his friend Pandu, 23, with taking a 13-year-old-girl known to them to Nallakunta on the city skirts. When the duo was attempting to rape her, passers by went to the rescue of the girl and handed over the duo to the police.
Student dies
An engineering student died after consuming pesticide at his residence at Ambedkar Nagar of Allapuram on the city outskirts in the early hours of Thursday.
The victim was identified as Diyyala Shyam Kumar, 19, a student of engineering second year in a private engineering college at Telaprolu.
Shyam Kumar had to pay the college fee, but his parents were unable to pool in the amount. An argument followed between the boy and his father on Wednesday night. No case was registered by the police.
