Calling upon the public to fight together, cutting across party lines for the uplift of the backward classes, Animal Husbandry Minister K. Parthasarathy on Sunday said that the long-pending problems of the BCs could be resolved only through launching struggles.
Mr. Parthasarathy was the chief guest at the 183rd birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyothirao Phule held at Ambedkar Bhavan in Machilipatnam. Speaking on the occasion,
He said that the measures implemented by Phule to eradicate discrimination from the society were being followed by all now.
Recalling the services of the former Chief Minister the late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to the BCs, he said that he was able to build the confidence the BCs and encourage them to voice their opinions and question officials in public. Machilipatnam MP Konakalla Narayana urged the Minister to oppose the proposal of converting the BC welfare association building into a youth hostel.
He said that all the BCs should take Phule as their role model and achieve development on all fronts.
Pedana MLA Jogi Ramesh, Municipal Chairman Sheik Silar Dada, District Revenue Officer V.V. Subba Reddy, BC Welfare Officer R. Sridhar Reddy and others were present.
At a programme organised by the city unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the party's office at Suryaraopet, BJP's city president K. Venkata Pitchaiah garlanded the portrait of the late Phule and offered floral tributes.
