Treat it as a political issue: Kapu JAC

June 11, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 02:52 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The Kapu Joint Action Committee (K-JAC) has demanded that the violence that broke out at Tuni during the protests for inclusion in Backward Classes should not be considered a law and order problem. It should be treated as a political issue that deserved to be resolved with the ‘required sensitivity’.

Apprehending threat to the life of Mudragada Padmanabham, the JAC wanted security to be provided to him. It also suggested that the government should not provoke leaders of the community fighting for reservations and instead sort out the issues amicably and scrap all police cases registered during the protests unconditionally.

These were among the nine resolutions passed at a K-JAC meeting held here on Friday.

Addressing media persons, Kapu Nadu presidents G. Subramanyam (A.P.) and K. Appa Rao (Telangana) and JAC leaders K. Venkateswara Rao and T. Bhaskar Rao said the government should be wary of those trying to drive a wedge between it and the Kapu leaders. It should handle the situation carefully to avoid further trouble.

Other resolutions were for liberalising guidelines related to welfare schemes before the Manjunath Commission submits its report and enabling Kapu youth to pursue studies abroad by sanctioning Rs. 20 lakh each.
