Commuters travelling to Vijayawada would have a hassle-free journey as the Inner Ring Road-Phase 1 was finally thrown open to public on Thursday. The road connects Gorantla on Amaravathi Road to Auto Nagar on Vijayawada Road, ensuring the commuters would not have to pass the maze of dense traffic in the town.
Commuters travelling from Vijayawada could take the IRR at Auto Nagar and enter the town without having to go through the traffic rush in One Town. The Guntur Railway Division on Thursday completed installation of a new gate with double interlocked lifting barriers, facilitating two- way traffic. The Railways has spent Rs.2.21 crore on the project. Only the second-of-its kind set up in the country, the gate is electrically operated and has automatic signal facility ensuring the signals would be switched automatically after the gate closes.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager C. Ramakrishna said the Railways had also installed CC TV cameras to monitor the flow of traffic and signal lamps on either side of the road. The 80-ft IRR Phase I was laid by the VGTM UDA at a cost of Rs.18 crore. It is part of the UDA’s Zonal Development Plan to decongest city roads and ensure better connectivity for those travelling to Vijayawada. The IRR-Phase II from Gorantla to Swarnabharathi Nagar is also nearing completion.
