Superintendent of Police, Guntur Urban, Gopinath Jatty has appealed to the public to travel in RTC buses and save the corporation, which is running in losses due to frequent bandhs.
Mr. Gopinath, along with regional manager P.V. Rama Rao, flagged off ‘Vaishnava Darshini’ (Dharnumasam special buses) at bus station complex on Saturday.
The SP advised the commuters not to travel in unpermitted vehicles and instead opt for RTC buses for a safe journey. The corporation was taking several measures to safeguard passengers and the APSRTC was the best among the corporation-run buses of other States, he said.
Useful to middle class“The package tours to pilgrimage centres are useful for the poor and middle class people. Devotees can visit a group of temples at reasonable fares,” said Mr. Gopinath and appealed to the public to make use of ‘Vaishnava Darshini’ special buses during ‘Dhanurmasam’.
The Regional Manager said during the one-day tour, the staff will allocate two hours at each temple and devotees can perform ‘special pujas’ and Satyanarayana Vratams at Sri Satyanarayana Swamy Devastanam at Annavaram.
Stating that the demand for ‘Dhanurmasam’ special buses was good, Mr. Rama Rao said that RTC is planning to operate ‘Vaishnava Darshini’ buses from other depots in the district as well.
Deputy Chief Mechanical Engineer G. Satyanarayana, Assistant Traffic Manager Ch. Venkateswara Rao, Deputy Chief Accounts Officer M. Ratna Vani and officers from various depots attended the programme.
