Transport operator’s kidnap: 10 accused arrested

The Guntur Urban Police prevented an abortive bid on the life of a transport operator here and arrested 10 people in this connection. Superintendent of Police, Guntur Urban, B.V Ramana Kumar, on Thursday produced the accused before the media. The police charged the accused with cases relating to attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy and extortion.

Grandhi Srinivasa Rao (48) owns a transport company, Grandhi Transport. Three persons, Kondapalli Seshagiri Rao, Ramisetty Muralikrishna and V. Srinivasa Rao, wanted to eliminate Srinivasa Rao and hatched a plot to kidnap him for ransom. They hired a gang and paid an advance of Rs.70,000.

On August 18, they called Mr. Srinivasa Rao to a parcel office, beat him up and kidnapped him. Later, they threatened him and demanded Rs.10 lakh from him. Mr. Rao sought the help of a friend and paid Rs.10 lakh as ransom. The kidnappers later left him near his apartment.

Based on a complaint filed by the police, the Lalapet police investigated the case, arrested the accused and recovered Rs.6 lakh and some weapons.
