Police conducted surprise checks at major junctions under police commissionerate limits and recovered 60 autos having fake registration numbers. They seized the documents of the vehicles.

Traffic police led by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police A.V. Ramana and Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohan along with Inspectors and sub-inspectors conducted the checks at several places in and around the city, and seized the vehicles.

“The owners were operating the vehicles by displaying fake registration numbers. The engine and chassis numbers of the autos were also false. Police have sent the seized documents to Transport Department authorities for necessary action,” said the Additional DCP.

In the counselling programme held at Women Police Station on Friday, Mr. Ramana summoned the drivers of the seized autos. The accused were running the vehicles with the registration numbers of damaged and outdated autos, he said.

The Police and Transport Department authorities will take criminal action and also under Motor Vehicles Act against the owners of the vehicles, Mr. Ramana warned.
