The APNGOs Association and associations of other State Government Employees, who are agitating against division of the State, blocked the entry of all traffic from the two National Highways into the city for two hours on Tuesday.
It took over three hours for the traffic jam that resulted to get cleared.
Members of the APNGOs, APSRTC Employees Unions, Municipal Corporation JAC and the Electricity Employees Union blocked the National Highways at Benz Circle, Ramavarapadu Circle, Kanakadurgamma Varadhi, NTR circle in Patamata and the Gollapudi ‘Y’ Junction from 10 a.m. to 12 noon bringing all traffic on the highways to a grinding halt.
While the APNGOs took over Benz Circle, municipal employees took over the Gollapudi Y Junction, the APSRTC employees unions the Varadhi circle and the electricity employees took over the NTR circle in Patamata.
The NGOs also staged rasta roko at all points in the district where there were big places on the national highway.
Traffic on NH-5 was stopped for over two hours in Gannavaram.
The AP NGOs, employees, teachers and pensioners JAC chairman A.V.Sagar, secretary Md.Iqbal, Muncipal Corporation Employees JAC chairman D Eswar, Revenue employees association president Kotham Raju, Seemandhra Transco employees president D.Venkateswara Rao and others participated in the NH blockade programme.
The NGOs in an innovative programme are going to conduct a cattle and dog show at NTR health University Centre on Wednesday.
