Traditional welcome awaits VVIPs

June 04, 2014 11:37 pm | Updated May 24, 2016 02:27 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

A grand traditional welcome awaits VVIPs attending the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Minister-designate N. Chandrababu Naidu near Acharya Nagarjuna University on June 8.

Women clad in ‘pattu’ sarees will usher in the Chief Ministers of other States, Union Ministers and senior bureaucrats with the traditional ‘aarti’ at the main entrance of star hotels playing hosts. Interestingly, a ‘tilak’ will be applied on the VVIPs’ foreheads before they are greeted with garlands and bouquets.

“We want to give the best hospitality to our guests coming from far-off places to participate in the swearing-in ceremony,” says Vijayawada Hotel Owners’ Association president K. Pattabhiram. Earlier, the district administration had directed hoteliers to reserve 200 rooms to accommodate VVIPs, but the list has now gone up to 300 rooms.

The rooms will be blocked from June 6 onwards. According to Mr. Pattabhiram, the list of dignitaries is divided into A, B and C categories. While Chief Ministers from other States and Union Ministers will constitute ‘A’ category, MPs and senior bureaucrats will be placed in ‘B’ category, while those accompanying VVIPs and securitymen will comprise ‘C’ category.

“We have not received the dignitaries’ list so far. We may get it from the district administration by Thursday evening,” Mr. Pattabhiram adds.

The administration has deployed a Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO) to each star hotel where Chief Ministers and Union Ministers will stay put.
