Trade unions, cutting across their political affiliation, will take part in ‘Chalo Parliament’ programme on December 12, according to CITU State general secretary R. Sudhabhaskar.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, the CITU leader said that all trade unions, including INTUC, were geared up to oppose the ‘anti-labour’ policies being pursued by the successive governments. The trade unions had already organised strike in three spells. The trade unions placed 10 major demands before the government. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also agreed that the demands were genuine. However, no action was initiated to resolve the issues.
Instead, the government accelerated the disinvestment process after the Indian Labour Congress meeting. The government paved way for privatising the insurance companies. The SEZs were being handed over to private companies. To oppose these moves, about 10 lakh employees and workers would take out rally in Delhi, he said, and urged the workforce to support it.
The major demands include minimum wage of Rs. 10,000; equal pay for equal work in factories; regularisation of services of contract and outsourcing employees; shelving of the proposal to privatise the public sector and the government companies.
CITU city president R. Ajay Kumar, general secretary Muzzaffer Ahmed and others were present.
