A cheerful smile is the most beautiful thing in the world. A confident and happy smile can happen only when teeth are in good condition.

This point was driven home effectively by dental specialists at “Happy Smile”, a free dental check-up and awareness programme conducted by The Hindu in association with Denty's, a dental hospital, at V.P. Siddhartha Public School on Saturday. The programme was attended by many high school students and their parents.

The students, parents and teachers were enlightened about the issues relating to the dental problems by Denty's clinical director Ch. Tejasree and periodontist Y. Pallavi Samata.

They made an impressive Power Point presentation for the gathering. Both the doctors explained in detail about the structure of human teeth, brushing in a proper way and precautions to be taken to prevent teeth problems like decay and cavities. “I have never been to a dentist until now. But now I am convinced it is important to consult the dentist at least one in six months,” said P. Sumanth, a 7th class student. Another student M. Swarna Priya said that the presentation made her more aware of the many ways to protect teeth and she would strictly follow the instructions.

The free dental check-up organised from 9 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. saw nearly 400 students being examined. Scaling was done to many of them.

The Hindu Senior Deputy Regional Manager V.V. Raja Rao welcomed the gathering.
