On August 20, 2007: Eleven Adivasi women of Vakapalli village in Nurmati panchayat of G. Madugula mandal in the Agency region of Visakhapatnam district, were allegedly gang-raped by personnel of Greyhounds, the elite anti-naxal force of Andhra Pradesh.

August 20, 2007: FIR filed before Paderu Sub-Collector and a case registered under Sections 376 (ii) (g) IPC (gang rape) and Section 3 (2) (V) of the SC ST (Prevention of Atrocities Act) 1989.

August 21, 2007: Victims sent for medical examination

August 22, 2007: Protest erupts in Visakha Agency

August 25, 2007: All 11 women taken to Hyderabad by CPI and they meet State Human Rights Commission and the then Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy

August 27, 2007: NHRC and National Women Commission serve notices on Andhra Pradesh DGP and SP of Visakhapatnam (Rural)

September 2, 2007: ASP Anand Rao, the investigating officer, visits Vakapalli

September 6, 2007: Tribal Welfare Commissioner Nagi Reddy visits the village and conducts inquiry

September 22, 2007: Victims take up indefinite fast

September 28, 2007: Fast called off after High Court orders CB-CID inquiry

October 14, 2007: District Collector and SP visit village for the first time

November 19, 2007: National ST Commission Assistant Director R.K. Misra visits Vakapalli and conducts inquiry

December 12, 2007: ST Commission writes to State government to hand over case to the CBI

April 16, 2008: Based on CB-CID clean chit report favouring the accused, the victims approach Paderu Magisterial Court and file protest petition, seeking court to accept as a private complaint

August 27, 2008: Paderu Court accepts the petition as private petition

September 4, 2008: Accused approach Andhra Pradesh High Court and get a stay

April 26, 2012: After hearing both sides elaborately Justice Seshasayana Reddy ordered that the criminal case of gang rape will continue against 13 policemen and acquitted eight policemen.

August 31, 2012: The 13 policemen approach Supreme Court and obtain stay on the HC order.

September 1, 2017: Stay vacated and apex court orders speedy trial and the case be handled by a special court that handles SC /ST Atrocities Act in Visakhapatnam.
