Amid tight security arrangements across the Krishna district headquarters protestors on Friday got divided into groups based on political affiliations and began the 48-hours bandh in response to a call given by the integrationists against the Union Cabinet decision on Telangana.
The YSRCP supporters staged a sit-in in front of the Bharat Heavy Electronics unit and the Telugu Desam Party leaders led by its leader Konakalla Bullaiah came on to the roads and kept a vigil on business establishments.
While no untoward incidents were reported, normal life on Friday came to a standstill amid protests since morning.
Former MLA Perni Nani and his aides joined the rallies at the Koneru Centre where integrationists under several banners raised slogans and burnt effigies of UPA leaders.
Joining them were lawyers, women and Machilipatnam Municipality employees.
However, the protestors allowed ATM transactions and all the banks remained shut down for the day.
