Three-day meet of Rytu Coolie Sangham gets under way

Farmers and agricultural workers should join hands to get a remunerative price by fighting against market exploitation, said Singamaneni Narayana of CPI (ML).

Inaugurating the three-day State-level conference of Rytu Coolie Sangham here on Monday, Mr. Narayana said that agriculture has been commercialised so much that farmers and workers are getting exploited in the market leading to a crisis that forced farmers commit suicides.

Retired IAS officer, B.D. Sharma of Bharata Janandolan and Prof. K. R. Chowdary spoke on economic crisis gripping agriculture. Andhra Pradesh Rytu Coolie Sangham president, Jhansi was in chair.

The conference began in Sitarama function hall near Ramnagar after the leaders paid tributes to martyrs including Kanu Sanyal.

Fraternal delegates from Kerala, Karnataka, West Bengal, Bihar, Orissa, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh are attending the conference.

Hundreds of people mostly from tribal areas participated in the rally taken out from conference venue to PVR high school grounds where cultural programmes were held in the evening.

Retired IAS officer, K.R.Venugopal would speak on public distribution system at the conference tomorrow.
