Three held, 66 ATM batteries seized

The CCS police arrested three persons -- K. Subrahmanyam, Sk. Ahmed Ali and Mohammed Vali -- on Cherukupalli Vari Street here on Wednesday and seized 66 ATM batteries from them. The batteries were stolen from 14 ATMs in the city and eight in West Godavari district in the last three months.

According to the police, Subrahmanyam used to carry out electrical repairs in ATM cabins. He discontinued work recently and took to battery thefts along with his accomplices.

The trio stole the batteries in the limits of Krishnalanka, Machavaram, Patamata, Penamaluru, Satyanarayanapuram, Singh Nagar, Suryaraopeta police stations and in Dhavaleswaram, Nidadavolu, Tadepalligudem and Pentapadu villages in West Godavari district.

Suryaraopeta SI V. Appa Rao and his team took the accused into custody when they were moving under suspicious circumstances. The three admitted to committing the thefts.

The CCS police had been monitoring the suspects since the last few days under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police (crime) G. Ramakrishna.
