A major fire was averted in a car showroom located near Siddhartha Public School in Moghalrajpuram on Saturday, with the timely intervention of the fire department.

The fire occurred in Chevrolet showroom, Fusion Motors, at about 5 a.m.. The security staff present at the showroom called up the fire department at about 5.10 a.m.

By the time the fire tenders arrived at the spot three cars had been gutted in the garage attached to the showroom. There were about 50 used cars in the garage at the time of the fire.

“We could contain the fire in a few minutes, otherwise it would have spread across the garage and there would have been a major fire,” said Divisional Fire Officer V. Srinivas Rao.

It was believed that the fire spread to the garage from the waste that was set on fire in a neighbouring vacant site, said Fire Officer B. Srinivas Rao.

One Chevrolet U-VA and two Chevrolet Sparks were said to be gutted and the damage estimated at about Rs. 15 lakh.

The fire department and Machavaram police are investigating the case.
