Different nations of the world celebrate the day to honour leading doctors of their country.

In India it is celebrated on July 1 to honour the Second Chief Minister of West Bengal and legendary physician Bidhan Chandra Roy. Dr Roy was born on July 1, 1882 and died on the same day in 1962. Dr Roy was honoured the Bharat Ratna on February 4, 1961.
