A temporary capital is coming up in the district with a built up area of five lakh square feet and it will start functioning by the end of June, 2015, said Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development P. Narayana said here on Tuesday.

Addressing a public meeting here, Mr. Narayana said the Infrastructure Corporation of Andhra Pradesh has been entrusted with the task of erecting pre fabricating structures to house a temporary capital in vast spaces available in the district.

The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) has been scouting for ideal land and would come up with a blue print within three days, he said. “A decision to house the temporary capital here has been taken by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to bring administration closer to people and also to effectively monitor the construction of a new green field capital coming up in Thullur and Mangalagiri mandals,’’ said Mr. Narayana.

Sources in the Ministry said about 500 acres available on the premises of Amaravathi Township spread over 390.38 acres in Mangalagiri and Navuluru mandals is likely to house the temporary capital buildings including a functional secretariat and other departmental offices.

Earlier, the Minister received consent letters from villagers who were among the first people to come forward to give away their lands for the capital. The village has 1,181.82 acre, most of it under cultivation.
