The vast contribution of the Telugu cinema to the Indian cinema at large has not got its due recognition, said president of Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce Tammareddy Bharadwaj, on Sunday.
Addressing a meeting organised in connection with the ‘100 Years of Film Industry in Vijayawada Celebration’ at Tummalapalli Kshetrayyavari Kalakshetram in city, Mr. Bharadwaj said the very mention of Indian cinema conjured up images of Bollywood whereas the fact was that Telug films had contributed in a greater way to the Indian cinema.
Pointing to the fact that many producers, directors, artists and technicians from the Telugu film industry had migrated to the Hindi cinema world and added value to it, he said ‘Movie Mogul’ D. Rama Naidu was one such producer who had made his presence known at the national level. He said the decision to organise this great event in Vijayawada was apt going by the city’s relentless efforts to take the Telugu cinema to a higher plane. The first cinema theatre in Andhra Pradesh, Maruthi Talkies, was in Vijayawada city, he reminded amidst public applause. Veteran yesteryear actress Vanisree, producer Rama Naidu, producer (Jagapathi Arts Picture) V.B. Rajendra Prasad and several other prominent personalities related to the Telugu film industry participated in the programme.
