The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has asserted that the Congress has no moral ground to celebrate 125{+t}{+h}birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, TDP State general secretary and AP State Housing Corporation Chairman Varla Ramaiah said that the Congress party insulted Dr. Ambedkar, who wrote the Constitution on many counts. The Congress did not allow him to enter Parliament. And, it ensured the defeat of Dr. Ambedkar, who contested as independent candidate. It was unfortunate that the Congress was gearing up to celebrate his birth anniversary, he said.

The TDP leader claimed that the Telugu Desam alone has right to celebrate his birth anniversary.

Bharat Ratna was conferred on Dr. Ambedkar posthumously due to unstinted efforts of Telugu Desam. It was the TDP, who made a Dalit as Speaker of Lok Sabha, he recalled.

Reacting to Congress leader C. Ramachandraiah’s allegations that “the TDP became a broker’s party “, Mr. Ramaiah said it was unwarranted comments. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu gave him a political life. He was sent to Rajya Sabha twice. But, he had no gratitude and switched loyalties to Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) and later joined Congress. Mr. Ramachandraiah kowtowed before Conrgress president Sonia Gandhi and played key role in merging the PRP with the Congress. How much kickback did he receive for it?, he asked.

“If PRP founder Chiranjeevi is a mega star, Mr. Ramachandraiah is a mega broker for mediating with Ms. Gandhi,” he said.
