The father of the Machilipatnam software engineer who was murdered in Mumbai, S.J. Prasad, disputed the Mumbai police’s claim over the arrest of his daughter’s killer, saying that the person detained by them may not be the actual offender.

“The police have many questions to answer. It is the same person who was interrogated earlier. How can the police draw the conclusion that he was the one who killed my daughter,” Mr.Prasad sought to know.

Speaking to The Hindu , Mr. Prasad said that though the arrest was made, the police have to make some things clear like how his daughter could travel with her heavy luggage on a motorcycle and whether the person shown in the CCTV footage, moving suspiciously near the girl at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus after she alighted the train, was the same one detained on Monday.

Mr. Prasad said he had several doubts about the sequence of events and wondered as to how the police were able to crack the mystery with little evidence of the incident emerging except the visuals gathered from the CCTV footage.
