‘Teachers should be role models'

July 16, 2011 12:09 pm | Updated 12:09 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Teachers are leaders, who take generations with them and create a new society, Montessori Mahila College of Education secretary and correspondent V. Koteswaramma has said.

Bidding farewell to final year B.Ed students at a programme here on Friday, Ms. Koteswaramma said she had been a teacher for the past 63 years. Being held on ‘Guru purnima' day, the function acquired special significance.

Ms. Koteswaramma, who has founded and nurtured several educational institutions, used the farewell function to impart a very strong message to the outgoing students. Giving tips to them through a power-point presentation, she said every one of the 120 students who completed the course should work to change society.

Going beyond textbooks, teachers should strive for the physical, mental, and overall development of students, she said. Teachers should be role models, friends, philosophers, and guides to them.
