TDP workers, followers of MP come to near blows

Tense and interesting moments were witnessed on the second day of Telugu Desam Party President Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s Vastunna Meekosam padayatra in the city on Sunday.

While a near-clash ensued between the TDP workers and followers of Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal at Budameru Katta here in the morning, Devineni Chandrasekhar, nephew of Mylavaram MLA and TDP district president Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, met Mr. Naidu at his camp site in the evening. There is tittle-tattle in the party circles that Mr. Chandrasekhar is aspiring to contest on TD ticket from Penamaluru constituency. Mr. Uma, Machilipatnam MP Konakalla Narayana Rao, TDP senior leader Garikapati Mohana Rao introduced him to their party president.

The MP took out a rally in support of Samaikyandhra and reached near camp site of Mr. Naidu. He spoke to TDP Vijayawada (Central) in-charge Bonda Umamaheswara Rao raising curiosity among the onlookers. The situation suddenly changed when he tried to move towards the camp site.

It invited a verbal duel between the MP and the TDP leader. As the situation was turning tense, the police took the TDP leader into custody and released him after an hour.

In the evening cine artistes Gundu Hanumantha Rao and Vijayalakshmi, met Mr. Naidu to express their solidarity for the padayatra.

TDP leaders Kesineni Srinivas, Nagul Meera, Buddha Venkanna, former mayor Panchumarthi Anuradha, former MP Gadde Rammohan Rao and others were present.

Mr. Naidu began his padayatra from New Rajarajeswaripeta and passed through Budameru katta, Dabakotla Centre. He is scheduled to rest at Satavahana College in Vijayawada (Central) constituency on Sunday night.
