For the first time, the Telugu Desam party (TDP) has won the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) since its inception in 1982. The party has 37 out of the 59 divisions and is all set to elect the new Mayor and Deputy Mayor. Meanwhile, Ummadi Chanti, who contested as an Independent from the 25th division, returned to the TDP, taking its tally to 38.
TDP candidate P. Anuradha had won the direct election for the post of Mayor in 2000. “It is a big victory for the party, and we welcome people’s verdict. They have cut the power supply to YSRC’s fan, and this shows they have not fallen for the false promises made by that party,” TDP district president Devineni Umamaheswara Rao said on Monday.
“It is not just municipal corporations and municipalities, the show will repeat when MPTC and ZPTC election results are announced on Tuesday,” Mr. Rao added.
“There is no difference like urban and rural voter or the eventual influence on results. Many surveys predicted different exit polls, but they were proved wrong ,” he said. Describing the party’s victory as the result of team work, TDP Vijayawada Lok Sabha candidate Kesineni Nani said people looked forward to the TDP for a better future.
