The TDP has staged a dharna at Kummaripalem centre here demanding the State government to construct a flyover near Kanaka Durga temple to ease traffic congestion.
The TDP leaders, on Thursday, found fault with the government for dilly-dallying on the flyover issue, and were critical of Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal. They alleged that the MP had become a stumbling block in the progress and development of city.
TDP Vijayawada Parliamentary constituency in charge Kesineni Srinivas (Nani) said the people were facing untold miseries and hardships due to vested interests of the Congress leaders. Day in and day out, the vehicles move at a snail’s pace near the temple. The MP, however, asserted that the flyover was not required near there, he said.
In fact, the TDP leader said, the MP had been opposing the flyover. Though the Central government has sanctioned funds for the flyover, the MP opposed it on the plea that an outer ring road (ORR) was coming up. Neither the ORR has seen light of the day. The MP owes an explanation to the public, he said.
Recalling that the MP in his manifesto had promised the people that the city would be developed on par with Venice, Mr. Nani said: “Vijayawada was competing with Hyderabad on development front. But, the city slipped into D grade cities list due to sheer negligence of the MP.”
TDP urban president K. Nagul Meera, Vijayawada (West) incharge Buddha Venkanna and others spoke.
