State accused of not responding to the pressing need

The Telugu Desam Party urban unit on Thursday staged a dharna at the Kummaripalem Centre in Vijayawada demanding that the State government construct a flyover near the Kanaka Durga ghat to ease traffic congestion.

The dharna marked the completion of one-year agitation for construction of the flyover. The party deputed Kodangal MLA A. Revanth Reddy as its representative.

On the occasion, the TDP leaders lambasted the State government for not responding to the pressing problem in the city. The narrow road on the National Highway had become a bottleneck in the city. Traffic coming from Hyderabad and other cities on National Highway-9 would have to pass through this stretch, Indrakiladri hillock, and the Krishna.

Several times, particularly during peak hours, traffic gets stranded for hours together, leading to traffic jam. The traffic problem worsens during festival season.

A flyover offers a better solution. People from Vidyadharapuram, Bhavanipuram, and One Town were facing hardship due to frequent traffic jams.

By opposing the flyover, the Vijayawada MP exhibited his lack of concern for people’s problems, they pointed out.

Mylavaram MLA and TDP district president Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, MLC Y.V.B. Rajendra Prasad, Nandigama MLA Tangirala Prabhakar, TDP State Executive secretary K. Nagul Meera, former MP Gadde Rammohan Rao, and TDP Vijayawada (West) in charge Buddha Venkanna spoke.

The TDP has been agitating for the flyover and MP Lagadapati Rajagopal has been opposing it tooth and nail.
