The Telugu Desam Party organised an ‘Atmeeya samavesam’ with Auto Nagar technical association and 30 other associations affiliated to it here on Monday.

Addressing the gathering, TDP Vijayawada Parliamentary constituency in-charge Kesineni Srinivas (Nani) recollected his association with the Auto Nagar, which was formed in 1966 in 278 acres. It developed into Asia's biggest industry over a period of time. Later, new Auto Nagar was developed in 2001 in 160 acres, he said, adding, “My grandfather Kesineni Venkaiah was first bus operator and the association continued with the Auto Nagar. I contributed 2 acre for the new Auto Nagar.”

Good roads and infrastructure were features of the Auto Nagar prior to 2004. It provided livelihood to thousands of people. However the scenario had changed and the Auto Nagar was plagued with umpteen problems, he said.

Stating that the transporters supported the Telugu Desam Party in 1982 when the party was formed. Every vehicle carried the party flag. The transport sector should display same spirit and support to bring back the lost glory. The TDP would extend all possible help to the Auto Nagar if voted to power. Emphasis would be laid on creation of infrastructure, power supply etc., he said, adding, “I will strive to bring down the toll tax and for the development of transport sector. The golden jubilee of Auto Nagar would be organised in a grand manner in 2016.”
