Party plans to organise a dharna in front of Sub Collector’s office on this issue.
The TDP plans to organise a dharna in front of the Sub Collector's office here on Saturday demanding the State Government to categorise the city as Greater Vijayawada.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, TDP Urban president K. Nagul Meera said that the government was dillydallying on the Greater Vijayawada proposal while many other civic corporations had gone ahead. The Vijayawada MP and other elected representatives were hoodwinking the people saying that the city had witnessed tremendous progress and development during the Congress rule.
The elected representatives were content with the projects taken up under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) programme, he said.
They also claim that the city took strident steps under the JNNURM programme but there was no truth in their claims. Many important projects like Kanaka Durga temple flyover, four-laning of the National Highway near Bhavanipuram, setting up of Super Specialty Hospital in the city only remains on paper.
The city would not progress on a par with other cities unless it was declared Greater Vijayawada, he said, adding the dharna would highlight the sentiments of the people. UDA former chairman Tumati Premnath and others were present.
