TDP seeks 10 tmcft water from Alamatti dam

July 06, 2013 01:39 pm | Updated 01:39 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Mylavaram MLA and TDP district president Devineni Umamaheswara Rao demanded that Chief Minister N.Kiran Kumar Reddy and the Congress MPs put pressure on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and get 10 tmcft of water released from Alamatti dam to meet the irrigation and drinking water needs of the people and farmers of Krishna delta and district.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Mr Umamaheswara Rao said that farmers in 14 lakh acres were waiting for water to raise seed beds. He said Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister had all the time to felicitate Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, but did not have any time to ask him water for seed beds.

The district Minister Kosulu Parthasarathy had no time to convene the district Irrigation Advisory Board. The farmers of the district regret that they had such an “incompetent” Minister, the TDP leader alleged.

Water release

He demanded that the Minister announce the date on which water was going to be released for the purpose of raising seed beds. If this was not done the farmers would come out on to the streets to agitate, he warned. The party also said that the process of reservations for local body elections should be transparent.
