Yerrannaidu, other leaders to attend
Telugu Desam Party will organise a conclave on ‘BC declaration’ at Vedika Kalyana Mandapam in Vijayawada on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, TDP Vijayawada (west) in charge Buddha Venkanna said that TDP BC leaders K. Yerrannaidu, Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, K.E. Krishna Murthy, Machilipatnam MP Konakalla Narayana Rao, MLAs and constituencies in charge persons would participate in the conclave.
The conclave was aimed at taking the BC declaration to the grassroots level, he said. TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu announced BC declaration with a view to uplifting the BCs politically. The party was determined to earmark 100 seats to the BCs in 2014 elections. It would also allocate Rs.10,000 crore to the BCs in the State budget if it were voted to power, he said.
Party BC cell district president Veeranki Venkata Gurumurthy alleged that the Congress was treating the BCs as a mere vote bank. Immense loss was caused to the BCs with the High Court judgment that the reservations should not exceed 50 per cent in elections to the local bodies. As many as 19,000 people would be deprived of posts in the local bodies. The government was contemplating bringing down the reservation for the BCs. The TDP would not keep quiet if 33 per cent reservations to the BCs were slashed, he said, adding, that the government should necessarily take steps to amend the Constitution and do justice to the BCs.
