The ruling Telugu Desam leaders are resorting to indiscriminate land grabbing and the party legislators are using local corporators as middlemen in fraudulently usurping the prime land in several parts of the city, alleged YSRCP city president and former MLA Malladi Vishnu here on Thursday.

Speaking at the roundtable organised by Communist Party of India on ‘protection of the lands in city from the land sharks,’Mr. Vishnu said while the State government was keen on doling out prime government and corporation land to multi-national companies, its local leaders were eyeing private and civic properties belonging to innocent people.

‘Heart-rending stories’

“Media is full of heart-rending stories of victims who lost their land to TDP leaders. In many cases, fake documents were produced. Instead of solving people’s problems, these leaders are resorting to anti-social activities,” he alleged.

CPI city secretary Donepudi Shankar questioned the motive behind the Police Department’s failure to file an FIR against TDP MLA Bonda Uma Maheshwar Rao’s wife who was allegedly involved in a land scam. “The department is working under tremendous pressure. TDP local leaders are coercing hapless private property owners,” he alleged.

Allotment of houses

CPI(M) city secretary Donepudi Kasinath said even in the allotment of houses to the poor under the NTR Housing Scheme, several irregularities were detected .

“All the three TDP legislators (East, West and Central) are sanctioning houses to their followers which were originally meant for SC, ST and other weaker communities,” he said.

AAP leader Pothina Rama Rao, Congress leader Meesala Rajeswara Rao and several victims who allegedly lost their land and other properties to TDP leaders, were present.

The meeting resolved to set up a committee consisting of all political parties to prevent land grabbing.
