As part of fulfilling its earlier promise, the Telugu Desam Party brought relief material by the truck-load and distributed as many as 40,000 kits to the families affected badly in the recent heavy floods in the Krishna River. All this material is stated to be worth Rs. 3 crores as per the claims of the party leaders.
Amid enthusiastic participation by the local cadres, TDP politburo member Nandamuri Harikrishna, former finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu and senior leader Ummareddy Venkateswarlu participated in the inaugural function held at the Kesineni Bhavan on Sunday morning. TDP district convener Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, former MP Gadde Rammohan, Bonda Umamaheswara Rao, Sk. Nagul Meera, Kesineni Nani and others were present.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ramakrishnudu said that whether the TDP was in Government or not, it was the policy of the party to get involved deeply and passionately in carrying out relief distribution to the victims of natural calamities. He said that the people had recognised the difference that the TDP had made as far as relief distribution was concerned, even as the response from the Government was very minimal and almost nothing in some areas.
Mr. Ramakrishnudu said that each kit being given by their party would contain rice, a saree and some other essentials, which would be very useful for the affected people in the areas that bore the brunt of flood fury.
‘Spirit of NTR’
Mr. Nandamuri Harikrishna praised the cadres and leaders of the TDP for coming forward actively to take part in the relief distribution activities and this spirit of public service always indicated the TDP’s readiness to go to the rescue of the people in times of need. He asserted that it was former chief minister N.T. Rama Rao, who was always in the forefront of collecting donations and essentials for distribution to the victims of natural calamities and the same spirit was continuing with greater vigour.
Many senior leaders descended at the Kesineni Bhavan, each carrying the responsibility of accompanying a local leader to an identified place for overseeing relief distribution to the victim families. Tokens were already issued to the affected families. About 20,000 kits were distributed in the city areas and the rest in rural areas.
