TDP celebrates Foundation Day

Party leaders recall the achievements of NTR

The urban unit of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) celebrated the party's 31 Foundation Day in a grand manner here on Thursday.

TDP urban general secretary Songa Ravindra Varma hoisted the party flag, while party urban vice-president Yalamanchili Gouranga Babu and official spokesperson Boppana Raghavendra Rao and others garlanded the statue of N.T. Rama Rao, who founded the party 30 years ago.

Later, addressing the gathering, the TDP leaders expressed their resolve to follow the ideals of NTR. It was NTR who brought the opposition parties on to a single platform to fight the anti-people policies of the Congress which was ruling the country and the State at that time.

The Telugu Desam created a history in politics in the State and at national level, and gave a new dimension to politics with its policies.

The poor, downtrodden, and weaker sections got their due share in politics with the emergence of the TDP, the speakers said.

Paying rich tributes, the TDP leaders recalled that the actor founded TDP with the slogan of upholding the self-respect of Telugu-speaking people and came to power within nine months. Abdul Waheed, Ummadi Srinivas, Yerneni Vedavyas, Gogineni Dhanasekhar, and others were present.

Remarks condemned

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) urban unit condemned the alleged remarks against Nandigama MLA Tangirala Prabhakar by Vijayawada (Central) MLA Malladi Vishnu, here on Thursday.

TDP urban general secretary Songa Ravindra Varma said Mr. Vishnu launched a diatribe against the Nandigama MLA at a meeting in Hyderabad.

The Vijayawda (Central) MLA also tried to attack Mr. Prabhakar. It reflected the Congress party's approach to Dalit MLAs and Dalits in the State, he said, adding Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and Speaker Nadendla Manohar should take necessary action.
